During
my
three-year stay in London I was involved in many projects which included
arranging the horns for Rough Boys (from Townshend's solo Empty Glass LP)
and
arranging the orchestra for the soundtrack for the film Quadrophenia.
However, what we shared beyond the music was our love for the Persian
spiritual master AVATAR MEHER BABA and we realized that we were fellow
seekers on the same road. For me, the highlight of my adventure in London
was
performing in two acoustic concerts with Pete at Eel Pie for an audience
of
the Meher Baba Oceanic around Christmas time in 1979 and 1980. Pete
generously shared equal billing with me. I was touched by the profundity of
the spiritual quality in his music and on those nights he brought it
strongly
to the fore. I recall it was a powerful and eventful performance and Pete's
playing on those nights inspired me to reach heights I never thought
attainable. His inspiration went far beyond that time over twenty years ago
and it continues right up until today. He helped me evolve as an artist and
a
man. Nobody present can forget the final piece of the night entitled
O'PARVARDIGAR, (a Townshend composition to a BABA prayer) a truly
transcendent performance of love and devotion to all the avatars.
I had the honor to meet MEHER BABA in the flesh when I was a child. My
parents Virginia and Harold Rudd had been disciples since 1952 and BABA has
been the central figure throughout my life.
Since those concerts I released three piano/harp albums and various film and
TV soundtracks, the most recent being the score for a film of a Charles
Bukowski story, "Love For $17.50," for the internet company Mediatrip.com. I
was also in the British Art Rock band Renaissance as well as being one of
the
founding members of the Annie Haslam Band.
Whatever mediums I work in I strive to stay true to myself and true to
AVATAR
MEHER BABA. My most recent compositions (which have not yet been released)
are dedicated to the memory of my mother, Virginia Cremen-Rudd who passed
away on October 9, 2000.
